Oak Hollow Mall was a regional buying groceries mall which had over 80 running shops. At the time of its closing in 2017, occupancy was once all the way down to Eleven retail outlets. Most of the previous mall development is owned through High Point University. Oak Hollow Mall used to be located in High Point, North Carolina, United States at the intersection of Eastchester Drive and East Hartley Drive.[2]
History
Oak Hollow Mall opened on August 9, 1995. At nearly 1,300,000 sq. toes (120,000 m2), Oak Hollow used to be the second-largest mall in Guilford County and the third-largest mall within the Piedmont Triad after Winston-Salem's Hanes Mall.[3] When Oak Hollow Mall opened, it successfully ended in the death of Westchester Mall, which had opened in 1970 on High Point's west aspect off Westchester Drive simply south of Phillips Avenue. After its closure, Westchester Mall was once transformed into Providence Place which includes First Wesleyan Church and a number of other businesses.
Oak Hollow Mall saw a decline in the 2000s as a lot of its inside stores started shuttering, as did its anchors. The mall lost much of its visitors to retail centers in Greensboro and Winston-Salem in addition to dealing with challenges from the industrial downturn. The Dillard's anchor closed one in all its two levels and grew to become the remaining open house into an outlet for the chain. Another anchor, JCPenney, closed on June 1, 2011, as it used to be unable to satisfy the company's new profitability threshold.[4]Steve & Barry's, which used to be initially Goody's Family Clothing, went into bankruptcy and was once changed by way of a Sears call heart.[5]
On February 24, 2011, CBL & Associates introduced the sale of Oak Hollow Mall to High Point University for $Nine million, although CBL persisted to control the mall. The university mentioned that the mall was to remain open as a retail complex in the interim.[6]
On December 27, 2011, Sears Holdings Corporation introduced that Sears in Oak Hollow Mall would shut sometime in 2012. Liquidation sales began in February 2012, with the final closure happening within the final weekend of April.
Belk left Oak Hollow in 2014 for a newer store on the Palladium shopping complicated, situated Five miles (8 km) away.[7]
In January 2017, High Point University said that it will be shutting down the mall, which on the time had Eleven final shops, on March 10, 2017. 1924 Holdings, the limited legal responsibility corporate that operated the mall for the university, issued a remark that the closure of the Sears call middle scheduled for the tip of February rendered continued operation of the mall "unsustainable". After the ultimate, a group center would continue to function in the former JCPenney area, as would the Dillard's Clearance Center, since the ultimate final anchor nonetheless owned its space outright. The outer parcels, similar to Target and Barnes & Noble, would also continue operation.[8]
